State Issues Guidelines on Dogs on Patios Variances

Numerous retail food establishments have expressed interest in allowing dogs that are not service animals on the outdoor patio areas of their facilities. Current regulations do not allow dogs that are not service animals on the premises of a food establishment.

Earlier this month, the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE) issued guidelines for restaurants who are seeking a variance from the food code to allow dogs on their patio. This is not an automatic variance for all restaurants outside of Denver. It outlines the requirements a restaurant would have to abide by in order to get a variance that would allow for dogs to be on their patio. Restaurants who would like to take advantage of this would have to get approval from their local licensing authority before they could allow dogs onto their patio.

Honoring Industry Stars In Diversity, Community Service And Lifetime Achievement

The restaurant industry is one of the most diverse industries in the country employing more minority managers than any other industry. It is also one of the most charitable industries in the United States. Currently, nine out of ten restaurants are actively involved in charitable activities on a daily basis. To help celebrate these industry stars making a difference each and every day, the National Restaurant Association Educational Foundation (NRAEF) has teamed up with American Express, PepsiCo Foodservice and Ecolab to honors individuals with the annual Restaurant Neighbor Award, Faces of Diversity American Dream Award and Ambassador of Hospitality Award.

How chefs and line cooks beat the heat ...or, in some cases, don't

If you can't stand the heat, get out of the kitchen. Unfortunately, that old adage doesn't fly with chefs and line cooks, who are required to work in hot kitchens for extended hours at a time. With temperatures at an excruciating average of 95 degrees across the country this week, many kitchen staffers have developed their own arsenal of tricks to combat the heat.
